UNMC has received two grants that total nearly $142,000 from the University of Nebraska Foundation for new equipment used in research and medical therapies.
“The funding we received for new equipment proposals will help advance 21st-century biomedical research,” said Jennifer Larsen, M.D., vice chancellor for research. “Science continues to evolve. As a result, new equipment is essential to allow our funded researchers to continue to compete at a national level for new research funding as well as advance all types of research.”
The following grants were received:
- $112,337 to acquire a next-generation DNA sequencing device and its associated laboratory information management system. It enables researchers to conduct genome sequencing twice as fast at half the price while keeping the highly private data secure.
- $29,600 to acquire a new device able to rupture cells more gently, causing less damage to cell contents and resulting in more information gathered with better quality.
The University of Nebraska Foundation’s board of directors awarded six grants totaling more than $760,000 to the University of Nebraska, including the grants to UNMC. Each year the chancellors submit proposals for the grants, which are made possible because of unrestricted donations made to the foundation.
