SHARING the Green Golf Tournament set for Sept. 7

The 13th annual SHARING the Green golf tournament will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis Center, 1401 N. 120th St.

The tournament is the key fundraising event for the SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) clinics, which are run by students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and provide high quality, low cost health care and human services to people in need. With co-pays ranging from $0-$15, the clinics are an invaluable resource for those less fortunate in the community.

The SHARING organization oversees four clinics. They include:

  • Opened in 1997, the SHARING Clinic provides primary health care to underpriviledged populations in South Omaha. It is open every Tuesday from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the UNMC Specialty Care Center located one block south of 52nd & Leavenworth streets in midtown Omaha.

  • Opened in 2011, the VISION Clinic provides ophthalmology services one night per month. The clinic has the capacity to serve 15 patients per month and is held at UNMC Physicians Eye Specialists, 3925 Dewey Ave.

Although the SHARING program runs on a volunteer basis, funds are needed to offset the cost of clinic operations and patient care. The SHARING clinics empower patients and instill the values of service and compassion in UNMC students in a multidisciplinary educational setting.

Health care providers, friends of SHARING, and community supporters are all invited to participate in the tournament. Cost is $100 for individuals or $375 for a foursome. Hole sponsorship also is available starting at $250.  To register or donate, please visit http://www.unmc.edu/sharing/.

Through world-class research and patient care, UNMC generates breakthroughs that make life better for people throughout Nebraska and beyond. Its education programs train more health professionals than any other institution in the state. Learn more at unmc.edu.
