UNMC employees can get their art fixes on Tuesday at lunch and then catch up on the juicier aspects of Omaha’s history on THURSDAY evening thanks to a pair of campus events put on by the Joslyn Art Museum and the Durham Museum, respectively.
Joslyn event focused on latest exhibits
On Tuesday, you are invited to join Toby Jurovics, Joslyn Museum’s chief curator & Richard and Mary Holland Curator of American Western Art, on Tuesday, July 24 for an illustrated talk on two new exhibits at the museum:
- “THE GREAT WEST ILLUSTRATED: Celebrating 150 Years of the Union Pacific Railroad”; and
- “CONTESTED TERRAIN: Painting the Modern Landscape.”
The presentation is free and starts at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014. Employees are encouraged to bring lunch.
Head out to the ‘Gritty City’
Then on Wednesday evening, you can hop on Ollie the Trolley and visit “The Gritty City” as part of a tour through downtown Omaha. On the tour you will view and learn about several provocative historic sites, including:
- The former home of Madame Anna Wilson;
- The Brandeis Building; and
- The Paxton Hotel.
The tour — which also will highlight the impact of noted individuals and events in our city’s sometimes turbulent history — costs $5 starts at 5:30 p.m. just outside the Durham Research Center on Durham Research Plaza. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
