UNMC medical students to hold scavenger hunt Sunday at Elmwood Park

Public is invited to learn how to become more physically fit

The public is invited to learn how to become more physically fit by participating in a family scavenger hunt in the picnic pavilion at Elmwood Park on Sunday, April 15, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The free event is the initiative of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Student Chapter of the American Medical Association.

The scavenger hunt will feature five booths with each one hosting a different game. Activities include:

  • A board game on making healthy every day decisions;
  • A safety relay race; and
  • A strength training obstacle course.

“This will be a fun event that will provide healthy information that will benefit both children and adults,” said Amanda Swanson, a second-year medical student at UNMC. “It’s a great activity for the entire family.”

Swanson said people will receive stamps when they complete each health activity. Those people who complete all the activities will receive a physical fitness calendar. In addition, guest passes and other handouts from the YMCA will be available.

A prevention medicine student, Swanson said physical fitness is part of the national AMA's Healthier Life Steps national service initiative, so the scavenger hunt meshes well with this initiative.

Through world-class research and patient care, UNMC generates breakthroughs that make life better for people throughout Nebraska and beyond. Its education programs train more health professionals than any other institution in the state. Learn more at unmc.edu.
