Benefit ‘U’ in focus — Retirement plan enrollment streamlined

The university has streamlined the process to enroll in the 403(b) supplemental retirement and the 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plans.

As of April 1, when you wish to enroll in these plans you go to the benefits website, click on the Retirement Plan Enrollment Module and use the links to these two plans.

Enrollment steps

As part of the enrollment module, you will be given the steps for enrollment in these plans, which includes the salary reduction agreement that must be completed and provided to the UNMC Benefits Office (campus ZIP 5470 or fax 402-559-3866).

This form lets benefits staff know:

  • The effective date;
  • How much you wish to have deducted; and
  • Whether the monies are to be sent to TIAA/CREF or Fidelity Investments (or both).

You also are provided with links directly to TIAA/CREF and Fidelity, where you will complete an online account application, informing them of the specific accounts you will be investing in and your beneficiary information.

Paperwork reduced

Now there is just one paper form (the salary reduction agreement) to be completed and returned to the UNMC Benefits Office — the rest is done online!

The salary reduction form must be received in the UNMC Benefits Office and the online account application must be completed by the last working day of the month prior to the effective date of your request.

Contact the UNMC Benefits Office at 402-559-4340 for more information.
