Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Lindsey Manzel was selected as the 2012 Nebraska State Student Nurse of the Year.
UNMC College of Nursing students recently were recognized with awards during the Feb. 25 annual meeting of the Nebraska State Student Nursing Association (NSSNA). Five also were elected to the board of the association. The award recipients were:
  • Lindsey Manzel was selected as the 2012 Nebraska State Student Nurse of the Year. Manzel, a student on the Omaha campus, received a $500 scholarship sponsored by US Bank.
  • The College of Nursing West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff received the NSSNA Chapter Community Health Award for development of an HIV testing clinic by students Jannene Zobel, Jennifer Prime, Jenna Propp, Christine Newell and Andrew Talbert.
  • The West Nebraska Division also received the Most Unique Community Service Project as students Rachel Gregory-Sachs, Diedre Artz, Jocelyn Jordan and Ashley Thies, received the award for their LifeLink Health Promotion project.
  • The Individual Community Service Award went to UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division student Andrew Talbert for his role in the Hoop Shoot at the Elks Club for fourth, fifth and sixth grade students.

New NSSNA board members also were chosen. Five of 12 positions are held by the following UNMC students:

  • President — Brenna Clyncke of the West Nebraska Division
  • First vice president — Nicholas Singer of the West Nebraska Division
  • Treasurer — Laura Gillall of the West Nebraska Division
  • Breakthrough chairs — Jaclyn Neve of the Northern Division in Norfolk; and Justin Boutwell of the Kearney Division.

The public is invited to the “TB Advocacy Round Table discussion” on Thursday, March 29 at noon in the Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 2001. Box lunches will be provided for the first 50 registrants. RSVP to fcmoore2@cox.net.
