Final Buffett Institute candidate to visit UNO on Friday

Harolyn Belcher, M.D., a candidate to be founding executive director of the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, will visit the University of Nebraska later this week.

Dr. Belcher — associate professor of pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and developmental pediatrician in the Department of Neurology and Developmental Medicine at the Kennedy Krieger Institute — will participate in the following open forums:
  • Thursday at 4 p.m., Van Brunt Visitors Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 313 N. 14th St.
  • Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Room 412 of Roskens Hall at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Dr. Belcher currently leads several grant-funded research projects including a recently funded National Institutes of Health grant to conduct a cost comparison of evidence-based parent interventions for young children with emotional and behavior problems.

Dr. Belcher has collaborated on community-based initiatives to support recruitment and education of African American parents participating in church-based foster care for children with drug exposure and HIV infection in Tampa, Fla.

Three other finalists, Carla Peterson, Susan Landry, Ph.D. and Ruby Takanishi, Ph.D., visited NU earlier this month.
