Spotlight on new faculty – Meet Michael McCaskill, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Michael McCaskill, Ph.D., M.P.H., assistant professor in the department of environmental, agricultural and occupational health, is one of the many new faculty members at UNMC.

Name: Michael McCaskill, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Title: Assistant professor in the department of environmental, agricultural and occupational health in the College of Public Health.

Research interests:

• Toxicology;
• Metabolic pathways;
• Xenobiotic induced reactive oxygen species mediated protein;
• Hormone; and
• Vitamin dysmetabolism.

Previous positions:

• Chemical Surveillance Coordinator, Hazardous Substance Emergency Event Surveillance/Agency for Toxic Substance Disease Registry, Florida Department of Health, Tallahassee, Florida, 2007-2009; and
• Post-doctoral fellow, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep & Allergy, Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center, 2009 to 2011.

Education:

• MPH in industrial hygiene from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., in 2002; and
• Ph.D. in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences from Florida A&M, Tallahassee, Fla. in 2009.
