April 27 is the application deadline for those who’d like to participate in the next cohort of the Clinical Translational Research – Mentored Scholars Program (CTR-MSP).
What: In its sixth year, the CTR-MSP aims to train junior faculty in the art and science of clinical and translational research conducted in a multidisciplinary setting. The program has had 17 scholars since its start in 2007 and seven have completed the program and earned Masters of Science in Clinical Translational Research degrees from UNMC.
Who: Past scholars have come from the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, but everyone with faculty appointment from all colleges are eligible to apply. Post-doctoral fellows who will be faculty effective July 2012 also are eligible to apply. Faculty with interests in all aspects of rural health are particularly encouraged to apply under the “Rural Health and Technology Track” of the program.
How: Activities include graduate studies leading to master’s or Ph.D. that are tailored to the needs of the individual faculty and usually involve taking biostatistics, epidemiology, designs of clinical trials, seminars in grant writing, and training in responsible conduct of research. Research with faculty mentors from all over the University of Nebraska enterprise is performed under the supervision of graduate school advisers. The scholars also participate in annual activities of other Mentored Scholars Programs in the Midwest region through the Midwest Consortium.
Accepted applicants are also eligible to receive $25,000 support to acquire pilot data to help in the submission of extramural grants.
Contact: Those interested in the program are encouraged to contact CTR-MSP Program Director Fausto Loberiza, M.D., at floberiza@unmc.edu prior to submission of applications and to address questions regarding the program.
