A new water chiller is towed down the lane between the ARS building and the Central Utility Plant on Friday. The same scene will play out on campus today as this chiller’s twin is delivered to campus.
And fit the 92,000 pound water chiller did on Friday as it was pulled up Emile Street and then behind the Central Utility Plant, where a new facility was constructed to hold two new chillers.

The first chiller’s twin will arrive on campus today between 9 and 10 a.m., at which time Emile Street between 42nd Street and the Durham Outpatient Center Circle Drive will close. Drivers and pedestrians should avoid the area during this time.

Chillers cool water to be used to produce cool air around the campus.

The new chillers are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly than ones that have been used previously and their installation will help UNMC in its goal to reduce energy consumption on campus by 25 percent during a five-year period.
