- Hometown: I was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada but moved to Omaha when I was 2 years old.
- No. of years at UNMC: I was a student at UNMC from 1982-1986. I returned to UNMC as a reference librarian in July 2002.
What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?
The McGoogan Library offers a free, consumer health information service (CHIRS) to the people of Nebraska and to patients of The Nebraska Medical Center, regardless of their state of residence. Helping people understand their health issues and arming them with the information they need to make informed choices is a real joy. We reference librarians helped one of our CHIRS users find the information she needed to contend with a thorny disability claim issue. Using the information we provided she successfully defended her claim. She was very relieved and grateful.

The library’s reference and education librarians are real team players. Many of the hands-on, educational sessions we provide require the participation of three or more librarians. I’m always impressed by how happy my colleagues are to participate in the design and facilitation of these classes.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I have two dogs, Lucy and Alice, and will soon have a third, Bindi.
- I help teach English at the Vietnamese Alliance Church.
- I like to knit, but I’m not a quick knitter. My last project, an afghan, took 20 years to complete.
