Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.
This week, we learn more about Rick Boldt, manager of disaster planning, assistant manager of safety and a “bowling ball candidate” for the ice bowling contest at next week’s Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s.

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?
One of my fondest memories was when UNMC used to have employee picnics at Peony Park. I ran the picnic twice and we had more than 4,000 people attend both times. It was the neatest thing. People could have their whole families come. It was really a great time. I also really enjoyed helping Rod Lugert run his horse and carriage rides at last year’s Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s. We raised more than $500, which was awesome.
Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.
Leadership. In all the years that I’ve worked here, we’ve always been on an incline. But under our current leadership, we’ve gone vertical. Our growth has been absolutely phenomenal and this was again evident with this week’s news about the new cancer center project.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I’m very proud of my four grandchildren.
- I enjoy giving back to the community and over the years I’ve served on several boards including the C. Louis Meyer Foundation Board, the Lyons Eye Bank Board, the Ronald McDonald House Board and the Metro Credit Union Board.
- Cars! Cars! Cars! I’ve always had a passion for working on cars!
Time out, Rick. As a fellow human bowling ball, I take exception to this blatant publicity stunt to raise money for your cause. Isn't this some sort of equal rights violation? Where are the bylaws?
