Michael Lu, M.D., the newly appointed director of the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health in Washington, discussed fetal programming as this year’s guest speaker at UNMC’s third annual Pre- and Inter- Conception Healthcare Conference, which was held this week in the Maurer Center for Public Health.

Pediatric cardiologist Shelby Kutty, M.D., associate professor of pediatric cardiology, was named Early Career Investigator for the American Heart Association 2011 Scientific Session.

For one week in October, the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) at UNMC was the site of a multi-state, federal disaster exercise. The exercise involved 32 labs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Laboratory Response Network among others. The threat was arsenic contamination in the Jefferson City, Mo., water supply, with 800 urine samples needing testing. Of those, 100 were sent to the NPHL for testing.
