The Husker Hombre says Nebraska will establish itself as the Big Ten’s true NU with a win over Northwestern on Saturday. (Peggy Cain, College of Dentistry) |
This week, the Big Ten’s other, and some may say original, NU comes to town as the Northwestern Wildcats visit Lincoln.
Lawrence Nelson, D.O., assistant professor of surgery, is a 1980 Northwestern graduate who attended the school in a down period for the football program that he called the “0-30 years.” Dr. Nelson once attended a Wildcat game with a paper sack on his head.
But after that he watched the program rise in prominence thanks to a string of solid coaches that started with Gary Barnett, who took the Wildcats to the Rose Bowl in the 1990s.
As much as he wishes it wasn’t so, Dr. Lawrence Nelson doesn’t think Northwestern can keep pace with Nebraska on Saturday. |
The Hombre says, “The order of college football is slowly being restored as Nebraska has climbed into the Top 10 of the BCS poll and the Blackshirts are officially back. Although this weekend’s game isn’t exactly a monumental battle between football powerhouses, this could be one of the most pivotal games in Nebraska’s Big Ten history. After months of dispute, this game will finally determine who is the real NU in the Big Ten Conference. I expect a solid defensive performance and a confident Taylor Martinez. As usual, Rex will be Rex.” NU 28, Northwestern 9
Dr. Nelson says, “Northwestern’s a good team and we just beat Indiana solidly. But I see Nebraska hitting its stride right now. I saw what they did to Michigan State and I think they’re really that good. Unfortunately I don’t think Northwestern can keep up with them.” NU 28, Northwestern 14
