Nov. 14 talk to feature expert on healthy pregnancies for at-risk women

North Omaha residents are invited to hear a free talk on healthy pregnancies and birth outcomes for at-risk women. The talk, chosen by residents of north Omaha as part of a community learning forum series, will feature Thelma Patrick, Ph.D., a registered nurse and professor in the College of Nursing at Ohio State University.

The forum will be held Monday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Christ Child North Center, 2111 Emmet St. Participants will enjoy food, share ideas and initiate action to help grow healthy families.

The forums – also planned for February and April – are one facet of a UNMC research/outreach project to support healthy African American pregnancies. In addition to the forums, the Connections Project also provides peer pregnancy support and trains community health advocacy leaders. The project is funded by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and private donors.

The evening’s schedule is as follows:
5-5:30 p.m. – Free dinner (must RSVP by Nov. 10)
5:30-6:45 p.m. – Introductions and Dr. Patrick’s talk
6:45-7:30 p.m. – Community activity development (community members will work together to decide on a task to help families).

Space is limited. To RSVP by Nov. 10, or for more information, contact Fran Higgins at 402-559-6680 or fhiggins@unmc.edu or visit http://connectionsproject.net as well as our Facebook page.
