The students attended the International Student Research Forum in Tokyo and the inaugural UNMC-Tongji University Graduate Student Biomedical Research Forum in Shanghai.
This year marked the sixth time UNMC students attended the International Student Research Forum, which was attended by students from China, Australia and Japan. The Shanghai forum was organized by and for students.
Below we hear from some of those who attended the forums.
“I would have to say that the best part was the other students. All of their unique insights into research, their experiences of going to graduate school and all of us broadening our horizons is my fondest memory of the conference.” — UNMC graduate student Haley Peters on the International Student Research Forum.
“Most meetings like this are very big and you don’t get a lot of personal interaction nor are they for students. This forum is tailored for students and allows a lot of valuable student-to-student interaction.” — UNMC M.D./Ph.D. student Gautam Malhotra on the Shanghai forum.
“We know American medicine is the best in the world. Many want the chance to go to America and further their education and research and to improve. We cherish this opportunity to have UNMC come here to our campus.” — Hang Su, a student at Medical and Life Science Center of Tongji University, on the Shanghai forum.
“It can help the students learn more and open their eyes. For me it’s a great challenge. I don’t have enough chance to communicate with students abroad.” — Jiayou Tang, graduate student union leader at The Medical and Life Science Center of Tongji University, who said he wishes more schools and students will become involved in the next forum.
