Theft prevention tips

The Omaha Police Department is investigating a theft ring that targets metro area offices and public facilities such as hospitals.

According to police, the suspects have been known to wear scrubs inside hospitals to avoid detection.

The thieves have stolen credit cards from purses and wallets, police said.

Campus Security has no confirmed reports that the thieves have targeted our campus but wants employees to be aware of the following theft prevention and safety tips:

  • Never leave possessions unattended. Lock up or take valuables with you.
  • Lock doors whenever possible, even if you will be gone for just a moment.
  • Avoid leaving messages on your door advertising your departure or arrival times.
  • Carry only the personal information, cash and credit cards you need and keep them secure in your wallet or purse.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity or behavior to Campus Security at 559-5111.
