University of Nebraska Central Administration has issued an RFP for research proposals that could receive support from the Nebraska Research Initiative (NRI).
The NRI is an investment by the state to build the research capacity within the University of Nebraska in fields such as business, agriculture and health care.
RFPs are sought for research in the following UNMC strategic priority areas:
- Cancer;
- Neuroscience;
- Vascular disease;
- Infectious disease/Biopreparedness;
- Genetics;
- Drug discovery/Nanomedicine;
- Biotechnology;
- Transplantation;
- Alcohol and smoking related disease;
- Musculoskeletal disease; and
- Rural and other health disparities.
Collaboration required
While all full-time faculty members within the University of Nebraska are eligible to apply, only proposals that represent collaborations by teams of faculty will be considered. Lead principle investigators (PIs) cannot have previously received NRI research awards as lead-PIs.
A proposal that includes two campuses should be consistent with priorities on both campuses and should be submitted from both.
The maximum total budget for each proposal is not to exceed $100,000 over the two-year period.

Proposals must be submitted to the office of the UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. Electronic submissions will be accepted. These can be sent to dchoate@unmc.edu.
