What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?
I received a phone call from a gentleman who had been transferred around campus numerous times and he was very frustrated. Instead of just passing him off to someone else, I took the time to listen and answer his questions, and as a result, I was able to get him to the right department. I also gave him my name and phone number in case he had any other problems. Imagine my surprise, when this kind gentleman called me back the next day to thank me again for taking the time to help him. That made my day!
Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.
I see all of these qualities in the College of Medicine daily. In our office, it is our ability to work together by building on each others’ strengths and knowledge to become a trusted resource and have great working relationships across campus. We are each able to make a valuable contribution to help things run smoothly and efficiently.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I commute two hours daily round trip, which totals 550 miles a week, to work at UNMC.
- I’ve been married for 36 years and we have three great kids. My oldest son is a major in the Army, my daughter is radiology tech and my youngest son works for the Iowa State Patrol. I have two wonderful grandsons. Also, my new daughter-in-law is a registered nurse and works on the sixth floor in the pediatric unit.
- I love to knit. I haven’t been knitting all that long, and I may not be that great yet, but it’s a great stress reliever.
