Dental artifacts from the 1800’s to the present will be on display
The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry’s museum of dental artifacts will be open to the public for free with tours beginning Sept. 12 and lasting six days.
The collection will be displayed in Room 1431 and adjacent hallways, on the lower level of the UNMC College of Dentistry at 40th and Holdrege streets in Lincoln. Free parking is available on the east side of the building in the patient parking lot.
Thousands of dental artifacts will be on display in one of the largest collections in the U.S. The museum will feature six period offices from the 1850s to the 1930s and more than 35 dental cabinets. Other artifacts on display include several dental chairs dating from 1855 to 1880, a collection of tooth extraction instruments dating from the 1500s, X-ray machines and instruments.
“This display represents one of the largest collections of historic dental items (dating from the 1850’s to the present) in the U.S,” said Stan Harn, Ph.D., professor of oral biology and curator of the museum.
A schedule of tours of the dental museum follows:
Sept. 12, 13 and 16: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sept. 14 and 15: 8:00 am – 9:00pm
Sept. 17: 8:00 am – noon
