Check out this video from the Musculoskeletal Tissue Foundation about the surgery UNMC’s Sean McGarry, M.D., performed on Chase Caspersen, a 9-year-old from Boelus, Neb., who had bone cancer in his arm.
Using donated bone, Dr. McGarry, an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, was able to remove the cancer without amputating Caspersen’s arm.
Read more about Caspersen’s surgery in this Omaha World-Herald story from May 29.
What makes this story even more amazing is that Dr. McGarry is not only a gifted surgeon, but a kind and genuine person as well. Anyone who has met him knows that he truly cares about his patients. We are proud to have him on our team! 🙂
Kudos, also to the MTF who did such a wonderful job telling this story.
