What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

I initially worked in computer operations on the mid shift (midnight to 8 a.m.). One of our duties involved delivering reports to various locations on campus. I really enjoyed (and miss) the colorful characters and people who work the mid shift. It takes a special type of person to work those hours effectively. The people at UNMC, as well as the hospital, whom I interacted with during those overnight hours are a wonderful group of people. Working the day shift now, I realize those people sometimes go unnoticed, but they are critical in keeping the campus up and running 24/7.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

Several years ago the computer operations area, as well as many of the IT departments, moved from 42nd and Emile streets to our current location on 42nd and Leavenworth streets. That move, and everything involved in making it possible, exemplifies three of the brand values quite well.

  • Leadership: All levels of management kept the project on track from beginning to end.
  • Commitment to excellence: Everyone in IT was determined to make the move as seamless as possible for the people who depend on IT.
  • Working together: Every department worked together effectively. Anyone who remembers the 4230 Building prior to the move can’t help but be amazed at the transformation.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I play guitar in a local band called “The Pat O Show.”
  • I served in the United States Coast Guard as a search and rescue helicopter aircrewman. The Coast Guard Sikorsky HH52A helicopter on display at Freedom Park was the model in which I flew.
  • I have a son with autism who’s spent several fun summers at Camp Munroe.
