Art on Tuesday, mansions on Thursday

Get a primer about some of the Joslyn Art Museum’s most traveled and rare collection pieces on Tuesday and then tour the west side of Omaha’s Historic Gold Coast on Thursday thanks to a pair of medical center partnerships.

Partnership information

Through partnerships with the Joslyn Art Musem (Passport Partners) and The Durham Museum (Time Travelers), medical center employees, students and their families get free admission to the museums with valid identification. The partnerships also bring events such as those in this story to campus.

Tuesday

Come to the Sorrell Center, Room 2010 at noon and bring a lunch to see a slide presentation regarding the “Joslyn Treasures: Well Traveled & Rarely Seen” exhibit, which is on display at the museum from June 4 through Aug. 28.

Contact Kacie Gerard at kgerard@unmc.edu to RSVP for this event.

Thursday

Hop on Ollie the Trolley at noon on Thursday to visit west Omaha of the early 1900s. The Durham Museum invites UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center students and staff on a trolley tour through the area south of Dodge Street in midtown Omaha.

Many landmarks in the city are here including:

  • The Blackstone Hotel;
  • The Storz Mansion;
  • Joslyn Castle; and
  • The home of Arthur and Zerlina Brandeis.

Pickup is outside the Durham Research Center. Arrive five minutes early so the trolley can depart promptly at noon. Seating is limited and reservations must be made.

Contact Sue Bowers at sbowers@nebraskamed.com to reserve your space. A $5 cash payment will be collected at the time of the tour prior to boarding the trolley.
