Thirty-two high school students from nine metro-area school districts celebrated their graduation from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s High School Alliance program May 12.
A graduation ceremony and reception was held in their honor at the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Sciences Education on the UNMC campus. Each student received a certificate of completion, and a bag filled with a class photo and others pictures from their experience and a class t-shirt.
For the past nine months the students participated in a range of courses including biomedical research, anatomy and medical decision making.
The courses – specifically designed for high school students – were taught by UNMC faculty on the medical center campus. The High School Alliance program provides students a unique hands-on learning experience that is different from what students would have access to at their high school. Most of the courses offered in the program are eligible for dual enrollment credit with the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
