Today, Kacie Gerard, special events associate in the department of public relations, discusses a tip related to today’s theme of alternative transportation.

Why are you involved with UNMC LiveGreen?

I believe it is important for people to be involved because every effort helps. Even for the people who cannot be involved with UNMC LiveGreen, they can still be educated and that’s the great thing about this group. Helping educate our colleagues to help UNMC have a greener future to me is worth it.

How do you regularly use alternative transportation?

In the spring and summer months instead of driving to work, I ride my bike to the office every Friday. I am lucky that I live pretty close and can ride here in about 15 minutes. It doesn’t take a lot of effort and it’s a great way to energize me for the day. Not only do I just use alternative transportation to get myself to work on Fridays, I can also be found biking to the Aksarben Farmers Market, down to the river front to cheer on the Omaha Marathon runners, Jazz on the Green at Midtown Crossing and up to Dundee for Dundee Days. Not only does it save me money but I get a workout and am helping the environment all in one!
