William Beschorner, M.D., adjunct professor of surgery and pathology and microbiology at UNMC, died Tuesday in Omaha. He was 63.

He was an expert in xenotransplantation — the transplantation of organs from one species to another. This expertise led him to found Ximerex, Inc., a private corporation that focused on xenotransplantation.

Visitation services are today at 6 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary (2727 N. 108th St.). Funeral services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Michael Lutheran Church at 13232 Blondo St.
The family asks that memorials be sent to the Saint Michael Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Bill was a true pioneer looking for unique ways to solve the shortage of donor organs through xenotransplantation. He laid the groundwork that hopefully will benefit generations to come. We lost a good man.
I worked with Dr. Beschorner on the development of his xenotransplantation model and will never forget the enthusiasm he brought to the project. His boundless curiosity and passion were an inspiration to the entire team. He was truly a visionary in the field of transplantation immunology.
