UNMC administrator named to AAMC Advisory Panel on Health Care

Cory Shaw, chief executive officer of UNMC Physicians, a 500-member physician practice associated with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has been invited to join the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Advisory Panel on Health Care.  

 

The advisory panel is a long-standing group comprised of 15-20 leaders from AAMC member teaching hospitals and medical schools that has addressed various issues relevant to the academic medicine missions of patient care delivery, education and research.  

 

“This is a great opportunity to be at the table representing UNMC and our entire state in the work that lies ahead to implement health reform,” Shaw said. “I look forward to working closely with leaders from our nation’s academic medical centers to shape the implementation of health reform. This is another example of the reputation UNMC has nationally as a leader in the reform of our health care system.”

Last year, the panel provided input and made recommendations on a number of issues, particularly related to the effect of health care reform implementation, which contributed significantly to the policy positions, directions and activities of the AAMC.

A native of Aurora, Neb., Shaw earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991 and his master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993. He has more than 17 years of health care administration experience. He has served as CEO of UNMC Physicians since 1999. Prior to this, he held other leadership roles with UNMC including accountability for managed care contracting and ambulatory clinic operations.

 

Shaw has served as a governor’s appointee to the Nebraska Medicaid Reform Commission, the Nebraska Coalition on Access to Health Insurance and the Nebraska Health Information Project. On a national level, he has served on the board of directors of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and on the steering committees for the AAMC Group on Faculty Practice and the University Health System Consortium’s Group on Practice Council.
