Last week, those with health insurance through the University of Nebraska received an important e-mail regarding an audit of NU’s health insurance plan.
The e-mail — from Keith Dietze, universitywide director of benefits in NU Central Administration — contained vital information that if ignored could result in employee dependents losing coverage.

The type of evidence required will vary depending on the relationship of the dependent to employee, but may include copies of:
- Birth certificates;
- Marriage licenses; and
- Other documentation.
This verification will need to be completed between the period of March 7 and May 6.
This week, affected employees should receive packets from Chapman Kelly — the firm conducting the audit — that contain information about how to acquire copies of such documentation should they not have them in their homes.
Failing to verify the eligibility of dependents could result in coverage being dropped and other penalties.

Will these packets come through campus mail or to our home address?
Will we be required to provide verification documents again if we already provided them when we started the dependent coverage (i.e., marriage license)?
I re-read the emails and FAQ's and I'm confused. The verification phase lasts from March 7 to May 6. Yet we are told coverage for ineligible dependents will end February 28. How can coverage end before the verification phase even begins?
