UNMC’s inaugural Spirit Week ended Friday with a rousing display of enthusiasm and creative performances.
There were UNMC T-shirts and lapel pins at every turn and red tattoos of the UNMC icon on dozens of rosy cheeks – and even one bald head.
Nearly 500 enjoyed Friday’s pizza lunch and Spirit Challenge, which capped a week of activities to celebrate UNMC’s vital employees and students.
UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., was among the cheering audience and helped select the Spirit Challenge winners.
They were:
- First place — The College of Public Health Cadets, led by their general, Dean Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H., as they performed “COPH,” a modified version of the Village People’s YMCA.
- Second place — The Vitals of the School of Allied Health Professions’ Marketing and Web Committee, which created a human pyramid to resemble the UNMC icon.
- Third place — The Pinkettes from the Olson Center for Women’s Health shared a live performance of their recent YouTube video, in which they donned pink gloves to raise awareness for breast cancer.
- Fourth place — The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience expressed their love of UNMC with their own version of the Village People song.
