Dr. Davis came to UNMC in 1969 as associate professor of medicine and served in numerous leadership roles until his retirement in 1994. Some of his roles included:
  • Director of the special coagulation laboratory;
  • Director of the division of hematology; and
  • Director of the Nebraska Regional Hemophilia Center.

Dr. Davis’ interest in the history of medicine led to creation of the Richard B. Davis, M.D., Ph.D. History of Medicine Lectureship at the McGoogan Library of Medicine.

“Dick valued his continued association with UNMC as professor emeritus and was so proud to establish the annual Richard B. Davis History of Medicine Lecture,” said Jean Davis, his wife of 53 years. “It really meant a lot to him.”
