Following an 18-month evaluation by more than 300 staff and clinicians, Epic Systems Corporation of Verona, Wisc., has been selected as the vendor of choice to provide electronic health record software for The Nebraska Medical Center, UNMC and affiliated UNMC Physicians clinics.
The move allows the medical center to enter contract negotiations with Epic.
Clinicians voted to recommend Epic in September, the recommendation was affirmed at an expanded IM Governance meeting later that month and board of directors of The Nebraska Medical Center affirmed the selection of Epic last week.
The implementation of Epic at the medical center will replace the Centricity Enterprise software currently in use throughout the hospital and UNMC Physicians clinics.
The roll out will begin with ambulatory care in early 2012 followed by hospital implementation with a goal of meeting meaningful-use goals.
