Midtown Business Association celebrates 30 years

Thirty years ago several business leaders got together with one goal in mind: to improve and preserve the historic midtown business district.

Joined by other business owners and leaders in the area, the Midtown Business Association became a reality and has grown from nine midtown merchants to more than 150.

“We are proud and honored to have had, and to continue to have, so many dedicated individuals and organizations involved,” said Val McPherson, president, Midtown Business Association.

From neighborhood business awards to being on the ground level of forming Destination Midtown, the organization and its members have supported and helped the midtown area thrive.

“The business environment in midtown is the healthiest it has ever been, no doubt because of everyone’s hard work and dedication,” McPherson said.

In looking to the future, the organization is hoping to attract new businesses to several key midtown areas, including 40th and Farnam, 30th and California and Park Avenue, he said. They also plan to continue working closely with Destination Midtown, improve their communications efforts through the website and develop a stronger relationship with the Midtown Neighborhood Association.

The organization will celebrate its 30th anniversary at a luncheon at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on Nov. 24 with some of the founding members in attendance as well as other invited dignitaries. Those wishing to attend should make reservations by Nov. 17 with Linda Mayfield, Edward Jones, and can email reservations to her at Linda.mayfield@edwardjones.com or
call 558-2111.
