Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Matthew Zimmerman, Ph.D.

UNMC Security will host a service today at 2:30 p.m. in the ‘Caregiver’s Plaza’ to donate a memorial stone in honor of longtime medical center security guard Clarence Titsworth, who died earlier this year.

Andrea McMullen, a second-year medical student, recently finished the New York City Marathon and raised $3,980 for the Alzheimer’s Association in the process. McMullen — who had people sponsor her run — finished the race in four hours, 21 minutes and 38 seconds. Her time was nearly an hour faster than that Jared guy from Subway.

CityMatCH, a national public health organization housed within the UNMC Department of Pediatrics, received the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) Director’s Award. The award recognizes contributions made to improve the health and well-being of urban women, children and families by strengthening the public health organizations and leaders in their communities.

Matthew Zimmerman, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of cellular and integrative physiology received the Harry Goldblatt New Investigator Award from the Council on High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association. This highly competitive award recognizes the scientific achievements of a beginning stage investigator.
