Post doc scholars such as Dr. Ponnusamy are considered a key component to the UNMC research enterprise. As part of the award, Dr. Ponnusamy receives a $1,000 award to support his work.

Describe your research in lay terms.
I have identified a novel mechanism for ovarian cancer metastasis and am working on another project trying to improve the Herceptin therapy for breast cancer patients.
What are your goals as a researcher?
I would like to be a good scientist in the field of cancer research. My main goal is to identify a universal cancer stem cell specific marker and its target.
What has been the best part of your experience as a postdoc at UNMC?
My favorite part of working at UNMC is working under the guidance of Dr. Surinder Batra (chairman of biochemistry and molecular biology). He gave me very good platform to do good research. I owe a heartfelt thanks to him and I also would like to thank UNMC for the great opportunity.
Moorthy is one of the sincere and hard working researchers I know in UNMC, he completely deserves this award.
