The College of Medicine recently honored academic affairs program coordinator Sue Pope for 40 years at UNMC. Pope has been in the college’s dean’s office for 37 years and has assisted more than 4,000 students.

Michael Rice, Ph.D., will receive the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Award for Excellence in Education.
Michael Rice, Ph.D., professor in the Community- based Health Department of the College of Nursing and a psychiatric nurse practitioner, will receive the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Award for Excellence in Education at the group’s annual conference in Louisville, Ky. Dr. Rice is one of six national award recipients.

At the same conference, Nicholas Guenzel, a graduate student in the UNMC College of Nursing in the psychiatric mental health program, will be honored as the Janssen Student Scholar for 2010. He was chosen from the largest applicant group in the history of the program and is the second UNMC student to receive the award. Last year, Dani Eveloff received the scholarship.

Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., associate dean for the School of Allied Health Professions, and five leaders from the school toured western Nebraska. They met with community members and discussed the significant role allied health professionals play in health care.
