In recognition of National Healthcare Environmental Services Week, here are some facts about the medical center’s environmental services staff and what it does to keep this place running.

The environmental service staff at UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center:

  • Is composed of 70 people;
  • Works around the clock;
  • Cleans 1.4 million square feet of ground daily — the equivalent of 1,000 homes;
  • Works in labs, offices, classrooms and public spaces;
  • Removes biohazardous materials;
  • Recycles about a semi-trailer of paper each month; and
  • Recycles about 5 million pounds of cardboard each month.

    Thank you to all of our EVS workers who make this place shine! I am especially thankful to all those that pitch in to help out at our special events. They are always so kind and willing to help and that makes my job easier!

    Rebecca Deng from EVS does an outstanding job on the 5th floor of the DRC 2. I can't say enough good things about her! She is efficient, pleasant, helpful and goes the extra step to ensure the areas on our floor are neat and clean. We appreciate you, Rebecca! Thank you for all that you do!

    Craig Lainson does an outstanding job! He is always going the extra mile to make sure our surroundings are clean. He is usually the first person you see in the morning he is always pleasant and smiling. It’s a nice way to start off the day.

    Thank goodness for EVS! I especially want to give Ed (I don't know his last name) kudos!!!I see him every morning in the Path/Micro dept. He's one of the hardest workers; he is truly a blessing to know.
