Hello again football fans! We’re back for a third season of Friday Husker Pick ’em.

For those new to UNMC — here’s the deal.

We have a panel of three UNMC community members (and one outside consultant) that makes predictions about the week’s Nebraska football game.

We keep track of who correctly predicts the outcome of the most games and that person is deemed the winner for the season.

Last season, Jeff Hill, M.D., associate dean for admissions and student affairs in the College of Medicine, was 10-3 in his predictions to lead the way.

Dr. Hill played split end for the Cornhuskers in the early 1970s and was a member of the 1970 and 1971 national championship teams. He’s back on the panel again this season for a third time.

Also back is superfan Lisa Runco, an administrator in internal medicine, who religiously attends the weekly Big Red Breakfasts in Omaha and takes detailed notes while she’s there.

She again will be joined by her Cornhusker consultant, Chad Kelsay, who played defensive end for NU from 1995 to 1998, including the 1995 and 1997 national title teams.

New to the panel this year is Kyle Ringenberg, M.D., a UNMC anesthesiology resident who played tight end and defensive end for NU from 1998 through 2002.

Enough with the intros, let’s get to the picks.

Dr. Hill says, “This should be a tune-up game. I think Zac Lee will start at quarterback. The Huskers are hungry. Look for major excitement among fans and players on Saturday night.” NU 34, Western Kentucky 10

Team Runco/Kelsay says, “This should be a pummeling reminiscent of the years where creampuff non-conference games were more like preseason games. Western Kentucky is not very good and NU is coming out to make a big statement. We should dominate in all facets of the game.” NU 44, Western Kentucky 10

Dr. Ringenberg says, “Look for Western Kentucky to be over matched from the opening kick off as NU looks to set tone for 2010 season.” NU 45, Western Kentucky 10

I'm interested by Bo's thoughts that naming a starter at quarterback would cause a "circus." How big of a circus would it be if he named Zac Lee the starter?

If anyone in the UNMC community would like to be added to the Corn Flakes (Firday Big Red Breakfast notes) email list, just email me at lrunco@unmc.edu and I will add you. This morning's speaker was Carl Pelini.

Happy to see you back and ready for a great Husker season. Nice to see the new face of Kyle. Even though I retired two years ago, I really appreciate keeping up with your picks.

I do have a question: The great Rob Z obviously has finished his residency and moved on to bigger and better things. Where did he go? Sure do miss him.
    Thanks Bunches!
