UNMC group to hold benefit dinner/auction for Creighton physician killed in car accident

Event is open to the public; tickets available for suggested donation of $15

The House Officers Association Alliance (HOAA) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center will hold a benefit dinner/silent auction on Aug. 26 with all proceeds going to the family of Dr. Adam Smith, a fourth-year radiology resident physician at Creighton University who died last week after his vehicle was struck nearly head-on by a drunk driver.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Lower Storz Pavilion on the ground floor of Clarkson Tower at The Nebraska Medical Center.

“The medical community lost a terrific doctor and wonderful man in Dr. Smith,” said Stephanie Kumor, president of the HOAA. “We would like to do all that we can to help Adam’s wife, Melissa, and her three sons during this difficult time. We are hoping for a strong community turnout to really boost our fundraising efforts.”

Kumor said the HOAA provides support to the spouses and partners of residents and fellows at UNMC. To assist the Smith family, the HOAA has established the Adam Smith Memorial Fund.

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $15 each and can be reserved by e-mailing hoaa.unmc@yahoo.com. People ordering tickets should put “tickets” in the subject line and be sure to include their name and phone number.

Donations also are being accepted for the silent auction. To make a donation, contact Devon Toomey at 402-932-8959.
