Wellness Wednesday – Surviving the focus of women’s conference

picture disc.Fred Wilson, who survived the 2007 shootings at Von Maur, and Joann Schaefer, M.D., Nebraska’s chief medical officer and a liver transplant survivor, will be keynote speakers at the 13th Omaha Women’s Health & Wellness Conference on Oct. 1.

Deborah Darrington, M.D., UNMC assistant professor of internal medicine and director of a cancer survivorship clinic, also will present a main discussion on getting back to normal life after having cancer.

What: “Surviving and Thriving: Finding Strength in Difficult Times,” the 13th annual Omaha Women’s Health and Wellness Conference

Where: The Mid-America Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa

When: Friday, Oct. 1 — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Who: The conference is open to the public.

Other discussion topics include:

  • Grief in children;
  • Workplace survival;
  • Wellness after divorce;
  • Post traumatic stress disorder;
  • Living with pain; and
  • autoimmune diseases.

Cost: $49 (includes breakfast, lunch, lectures and exhibits)

Other events: Low cost screenings including lipid, glucose and complete blood count, will be available for $15, and a thyroid-stimulating hormone test will be available for $5. Nursing credit is available for an additional $30.
