The transformation in nursing education will be the topic of a Aug. 19 lecture by Pamela Ironside, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environments for Health and director of the Center for Research in Nursing Education at Indiana University. She will present during the lecture known as the Audrey Solberg Smith Distinguished Lectureship for Teaching Excellence.
The lecture, which is open to the public at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will be held at 1 p.m. in Room 3002 of the the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education on the northeast corner of 42nd and Emile streets. Surface parking is available directly to the east of the Sorrell Center.
This marks the third year for the annual lectureship, which promotes learning skills and outstanding teaching and is presented by the UNMC College of Nursing.
The presentation will examine the need for transformation in how students are prepared for nursing practice, address the complexity of nursing work and the implications for transforming nursing education and the future of research in nursing.
The lecture is made possible through the University of Nebraska Foundation by an endowment from Audrey Solberg "Solly" Smith. She graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska School of Nursing in 1947 and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the UNMC College of Nursing in 1965.
