13th Omaha Women’s Health & Wellness Conference to focus on surviving, thriving in difficult times

 

“Surviving and Thriving: Finding Strength in Difficult Times,” will be the focus of the 13th annual Omaha Women’s Health and Wellness Conference on Friday, Oct. 1, held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
 
The conference, which is open to the public, will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
The cost of the conference is $49, which includes breakfast, lunch, lectures, and exhibits. Health screenings will be offered at a minimal cost. Registration deadline is Sept. 24.
 
Breakfast keynote speaker is Fred Wilson, a survivor of the 2007 shooting at Von Maur. The main session speaker, Deborah Darrington, M.D., University of Nebraska Medical Center assistant professor of internal medicine and director of a cancer survivorship clinic, will discuss getting back to normal after having cancer.
 
Joann Schaefer, M.D., Nebraska’s chief medical officer and liver transplant recipient will be the luncheon keynote speaker. She will discuss how to live well with a chronic illness. Closing speaker will be Marie Micheletto, an inspirational speaker from Omaha.
 
Participants will choose from afternoon sessions that include grief in children, workplace survival, wellness after divorce, post traumatic stress disorder, living with pain and autoimmune diseases.
 
Low cost screenings including lipid, glucose and complete blood count, will be available for $15, and a thyroid-stimulating hormone test will be available for $5. Nursing credit is available for an additional $30.
