Spotlight on new faculty — meet C.B. Gurumurthy, Ph.D.

C.B. Gurumurthy, D.V.M., Ph.D., director of the mouse genome engineering core facility and assistant professor of genetics, cell biology and anatomy, is among the many new faculty members at UNMC.

Expertise:
Advanced molecular biological techniques with expertise in designing and generation of mutant mouse models used in biomedical research.

With Dr. Gurumurthy’s recruitment, the UNMC MGE Core Facility is poised to introduce several new services including engineering of transgenic and targeting constructs, a service that is currently available only at two other U.S. universities. Other services that will be introduced in the near future are:

  • Mouse genotyping
  • Speed congenics
  • Consultation services in designing and generating mutant mouse models

Education:

  • Ph.D. in veterinary virology, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (2000)
  • B.V.Sc. (equivalent to D.V.M.), Bangalore Veterinary College, India (1993).

Postdoctoral training:

  • Northwestern University, 2003-2007; and
  • Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology, 2002-2003, Hyderabad, India

Previous positions:

  • 2000-2002, Scientist (Molecular Biology), Dr. Reddy’s Research Foundation, Hyderabad, India

Professional memberships:
  • Member, American Association for Cancer Research
