Stand inside a roaring tornado, trigger an underwater earthquake and simulate a tsunami, create a virtual volcano or touch and examine rock specimens at special July 27 Durham Museum event for medical center staff and students.
“Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters” is the backdrop for this year’s participant’s night at The Durham Museum, which will be held Tuesday, July 27 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The event is part of the Time Travelers program, a partnership between UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, UNMC Physicians and the museum.
“Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters” examines the science behind the history and headlines and illustrates how much we know and how much we are still learning about nature’s terrifying power.
In this exhibition from Chicago’s Field Museum, visitors will find:
- State-of-the-art animations;
- Large scale images;
- Lava specimens;
- Discover how people adapt to living at risk; and
- Cultural artifacts that reveal the relationship we have with Earth and much more.
Families will get the chance to participate in children’s weather activities and hear music by saxophonist Nikki Funkhauser.
A cash bar and appetizers will be available.
