Learn about environmental hazards affecting you during July 13 Science Café in Omaha

Did you know your carpet could be causing your allergies? Is it better to use anti-bacterial soap? How far does spit travel?

Those questions and more will be answered at the next Science Cafe, 7 p.m., July 13, at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. in Omaha. Shawn Gibbs, Ph.D., associate professor with the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Environmental, Agricultural & Occupational Health in the College of Public Health, will present "Environmental Hazards.”

A certified industrial hygienist, Dr. Gibbs studies environmental exposure assessment and focuses on environmental microbiology. His primary research interests are environmental bioaerosols (bacterial, antibiotic resistant bacteria, fungal, viral) and water exposure. This includes source evaluation, source tracking and methods to reduce exposure.
