Those questions and more will be answered at the next Science Cafe, 7 p.m., July 13, at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. in Omaha. Shawn Gibbs, Ph.D., associate professor with the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Department of Environmental, Agricultural & Occupational Health in the College of Public Health, will present “Environmental Hazards.”
A certified industrial hygienist, Dr. Gibbs studies environmental exposure assessment and focuses on environmental microbiology. His primary research interests are on environmental bioaerosols (bacterial, antibiotic resistant bacteria, fungal, viral) from both the indoor and ambient environments and water exposures. This includes source evaluation, source tracking and methods to reduce exposure.
Science Cafe is a free educational event sponsored by UNMC and other groups to increase the population’s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month.
Free pizza, provided by the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, will be available for the first 50 people in attendance.
