Below is a list of recent achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

UNMC was presented a Silver Award of Honor and designated as one of Greater Omaha’s Safest Companies at the recent Safety & Health Council of Greater Omaha’s annual awards luncheon. This award is presented to companies with superior safety and health programs, results and achievements.

Ward Chambers, M.D., coordinator of UNMC’s International Health and Medical Education program, will be one of four individuals honored this year at the Ak-Sar-Ben Coronation and Scholarship Ball on Oct. 9 at Qwest Center Omaha. Dr. Chambers is being recognized in the professions category. Other honorees in the Court of Honor and their categories include: Jack D. Mills, public service; Dr. Maryanne Stevens, education; and Alexander Payne, arts.

Hundreds of campus administrative professionals attended a pair of May ceremonies in the Durham Research Center Auditorium. During the ceremonies, attendees heard a seminar by former Nebraska football player and motivational speaker Aaron Davis (http://www.aarondavisspeaks.com/#) on attitudes that breed success.

Philise Williams, a graduate research assistant in the laboratory of Alexander “Sasha” Kabanov, Pharm.D., has received a 2010 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. The award — which comes with an annual $30,000 stipend over a period of three years — honors graduate research work and promotes a diverse research workforce.

The Flatland Juggling Festival will be held this weekend in the Center for Healthy Living. The festival starts today with open juggling in the CFHL gym from 5 to 8 p.m. More open juggling will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There also will be a public show on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Castle Barrett, which is west 42nd and Leavenworth streets.
