Third world dental mission trips, oral surgery and anesthesia techniques top the list of topics being presented during this year’s dental education caravan.
Dentists from the UNMC College of Dentistry will provide updates in dentistry to dental professionals in four Nebraska communities May 10-13 during the 22nd Annual Continuing Education Caravan. Those who attend will receive 3.5 hours of free continuing dental education credit.
The caravan will stop in Ashland, Grand Island, North Platte and Scottsbluff. Presentations will be given by James Jenkins, D.D.S., and Bruce Bavitz, D.D.S.
In addition, John Reinhardt, D.D.S., dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry, will present a brief update on education, research, patient care and outreach activities at the college. Dr. Reinhardt is available for media interviews following the presentations with the exception of May 13.
The programs will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at each of the following locations:
May 10 – Ashland, Strategic Air & Space Museum
May 11 – Grand Island, Quality Inn & Suites (formerly the Interstate Holiday Inn)
May 12 – North Platte, Quality Inn & Suites
May 13 – Scottsbluff, Harms Advanced Technology Center at Western Nebraska Community College
The agenda at each location is as follows:
1 p.m. – Greeting and introduction by Merlyn Vogt, D.D.S., assistant professor in the department of surgical specialties.
1:10 p.m. – UNMC College of Dentistry update by Dean John Reinhardt, D.D.S.
1:30 p.m. – "So, you want to go on a third world dental mission trip?" Dr. James Jenkins.
3:15 p.m. – "Novel and pragmatic oral surgery and anesthesia techniques," Dr. Bruce Bavitz.
