Doane College biology major Anthony Bieck recently shadowed UNMC brain expert Sanjay Singh, M.D., for a day.

The visit occurred after Bieck heard Dr. Singh speak at a recent Simply Science event at Doane and was enthralled by what he heard.

After the presentation, Bieck asked Dr. Singh, associate professor and vice chairman for education in the UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences, if he could shadow him back at the medical center in Omaha.

Last week, Dr. Singh obliged.

“He tells me he wants to try and make this his future career,” Dr. Singh said of Bieck.

Bieck was just one of many interested attendees Dr. Singh encountered as he made Simply Science presentations in Beatrice, Crete and Nebraska City in late February.

“It was indeed a revelation to see how many people came to these programs,” he said. “Their interest in the science of the brain was unbelievable. I was answering their questions for a long time after my presentation and I am still getting queries from some of the members of the audience.”

Simply Science is intended to strengthen UNMC’s commitment to communities across the state by sharing the latest in health care information.

As part of UNMC Simply Science, faculty members will travel to different regions of the state and present on various topics of health care.

The visits will take place four times per year and allow UNMC faculty to share some of the exciting breakthroughs that take place at the medical center. The visits also show UNMC how it can best serve communities around the state.
