The UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute will host a symposium on “A Multidisciplinary Health Care Approach for Childhood Muscular Dystrophies” on April 23-24 in the Sorrell Center.
The goal of the event is to provide families of those with muscular dystrophies and professionals in special education, pediatrics, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and other areas with interdisciplinary insight to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities.
The symposium will feature lectures designed to help families and health care professionals of all disciplines develop new skills and strategies to treat children and adolescents with MD.
Topics include:
- Genetics and medical issues;
- Medical and nutrition issues;
- Current topics in therapies; and
- Facing challenges in community participation.
Eric Hoffman, Ph.D., founder and director of the Research Center for Genetic Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington will deliver the keynote speech titled “Emerging Therapeutics for Muscular Dystrophy.”
Registration is $85 for professionals and $25 for students, family members and others.
The program also has been approved for 7.75 conduct hours of CE credit through the Nebraska PT Association.
