Brock Steinbrink receives March Gold ‘U’

Going the extra mile at work comes naturally to Brock Steinbrink.

The SAP Support Systems and Cashiering Supervisor in UNMC Business and Finance competes in road races and marathons and plans to do an Ironman and Ultramarathon soon.

Though running is an individual sport, Steinbrink’s colleagues say he’s a team-player.

“The entire benefits staff is grateful for his efforts,” said nominator, Jayme Nekuda, Ph.D., division director of benefits and work-life programs.

Steinbrink’s “can-do attitude” and instrumental role during the recent online NUFlex enrollment have earned the Kearney native the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ for the month of March.

“He always looks for ways to improve the use of the computer and accounting systems,” said Carol Kirchner, controller/director of accounting and business services development. “He treats people well and is courteous and respectful to all he assists, particularly those with fewer computer skills than he has.”

Below, Steinbrink reflects on his job and receiving the Gold ‘U’.

On his daily duties

Every day there are new challenges and issues that occur, which makes work fun.
We do anything from assisting employees with getting into Firefly and helping them manage their Firefly account, to reconciling the daily deposits for the campus. We enter cash receipts into Track and SAP and we make sure that they get deposited to the bank daily. We help SAP users with a wide variety of issues from travel to HR to accounting to purchasing. We also train employees on the SAP system.

On what makes it all worthwhile

The most satisfying part about my job is assisting people with problems and finding solutions to challenges. When employees are able to perform their work without any issues because I have helped them, I have done my job.

On his philosophy

I come from a Christian, hard-working family that has taught me a lot about the values of how to treat others and always give your absolute all in everything you do. If you’re given a job, do it well.

On receiving the Gold ‘U’

I was honored and grateful for the support from the people I work with each day. They assist me just as much as I assist them, so the award could have been a team award.
